Five years in business together has flown by, and Sarah and I have learned a few things along the way.
- First, we learned that our favorite thing to organize is a whole house. Sounds crazy, but there is something extremely satisfying about digging into items of the home as a connected entity to create systems that work throughout the entire house. There are no longer random piles all over the place, and we can give careful thought to where to assign a permanent home for each category (memorabilia, medicine, backstock) because we’ve seen the whole layout of the home. We love it when our clients trust us to come into their space and make sense of it, and find we work best when we can look at the whole picture. Yep, we’d choose a whole house organizing project any day.
- Second, we’ve learned that organizing fads come and go. Marie Kondo, The Home Edit, ROYGBIV, decanting, a Kardashian pantry and whatever else Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime think up: they’ve all been enormously popular and created excitement in the world of organizing, which we love. But we’ve also realized that there is no one-style-fits-all approach. What one client wants for her pantry may be the polar opposite of another’s preference, so staying on top of trends but also fitting the right style for each home is the key to long-term satisfaction for our clients. That’s why we ask lots of questions to assess your style and priorities, and the reason not every finished WPO project looks the same. Our overall goal is creating a space that works for YOUR home and the people who live there!
- Third, two or more minds on a project are better than one. Growing our team has been an unexpected but delightful journey for both me and Sarah. Hiring a professional home organizer brings a new perspective to your goals, while adding people to our team multiplies the creativity, capability, and scheduling availability for us to meet your needs.. We’ve learned organizing tips and tricks from every one of the 25 people that have joined our WPO team as certified home organizers, and love seeing the collective experience they bring to your organizing projects. Also, it’s great fun to knock out a massive job quickly…many hands make light work!
- The fourth thing we’ve learned is that the transition areas of the home are the most important to organize. Kitchen/pantry, closets, bathrooms, garage, and incoming paper: each of these are transition spots, places where we need to get fed, get ready, get clean, get home, and get with it! It’s why they are the five most popular areas we are asked to organize, and the five areas that cause the most stress when in disarray. If you let us help you get the right structure and organization in place for these transition pain points, I can promise…your happiness at home will increase!
- Fifth and finally, we have learned that there isn’t a soul on this earth who isn’t uplifted by walking into a freshly organized space. We see it every time: the smile, the bright and shining eyes, sigh of relief. It’s the best job benefit ever! Humans are wired to crave order and organization, and that moment of seeing your excitement as you witness the difference from before to after, from craziness to clarity is why we do what we do. It doesn’t matter how fancy of a home we’re in–organization simply brings joy. It helps you be more productive and brings peace to your home and life. It’s why, after five years, we’re just as happy organizing as the first day we started.
